The three best friends that anyone could have...

Smash, Bramble, Sour... three cocktails that vary but, all have a somewhat similar makeup.

Smashes stem from a julep variation, mixing spirit, sugar, and mint. Extra fruit can be added, whether it be as a garnish or a juice in the cocktail. But as the name suggests, physically smashing or muddling the fruit or mint makes this cocktail a labor of love.

The Bramble is a modern cocktail recipe that calls for gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, crushed ice and drizzled with blackberry liqueur. Served most commonly in a rocks glass and garnished with fresh blackberries. This cocktail is picture perfect, light and refreshing.

Sours take these similar ingredients of spirit, citrus juice (like lemon or lime), a sweetener like simple syrup or agave. But the addition of an egg white, or aquafaba (chick pea water) is what makes this classic different from the others. The addition of egg white gives this cocktail a creamy texture that's light, airy and oh so delicious!

When looking at these three cocktails as blue prints, bartenders have endless possibilities to concoct their own spins on each recipe. Whether it's a simple addition of garnish or combining and editing recipes to make their very own new thing.

Knowing these blueprints and keeping balance and the forefront of my requirements for making cocktails I made this cocktail. A Blackberry Bourbon Sour that's equally tart and sweet with texture and brightness. Cheers!
